Nigerian striker Emmauel Emenike scored his third goal in two games for Fenerbahce but it wasn’t enough as they crashed out of the UEFA Champions League following a 4-3 aggregate defeat to AS Monaco.
The Turkish giants had taken a 2-1 advantage from the first leg of the third qualifying round courtesy a brace form Emenike and a draw would’ve seen them pick a playoff spot.
Monaco came out fighting and deservedly took the lead through Valère Germain before Manchester United and Chelsea flop Radamel Falcao increased the lead from the penalty spot.
Emenike reduced the deficit in the scored half with a poacher’s strike but the hearts of the away supporters were broken when Germain completed his brace to end the game 3-1 on the night and 4-3 on aggregate.
Elderson Echejile was overlooked by the Monaco manager for the second consecutive match and he wasn’t even on the bench.
