Liverpool are set to send Nigerian youngster on a season long loan to Dutch Eredivisie side NEC Nijmegen, according to the Liverpool Echo.
The 18-year-old joined the Anfield side last summer but was immediately sent on loan to German second division side FSV Frankfurt for the 2015/16 campaign.
The report claims that another European loan is expected to help the Nigerian secure a UK work permit.
Awoniyi impressed with his time at Frankfrut, making 14 appearances and scoring one goal. NEC manager Peter Hyballa – who is well known to Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is confident his relationship with the former Dortmund manager will help seal the move.
“I’ve worked with Jurgen Klopp,” Hyballa said. “I was under 19 coach at Borussia Dortmund.
“We worked together very well. He’s bigger than me. He has a little more experience and prizes.”
Awoniyi is currently with the Dream Team VI of Nigeria, in the United States of America preparing for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
