The 2016 edition of the Sportsman of the Year Award (SOYA) in Kenya, to be held on Friday 15 January will have a special guest in former Cameroonian star Patrick Mboma.
Mboma, who had a lot of glory as a player with the Indomitable Lions will be gracing the function at the Kenyatta International Convention Center (KICC) as confirmed by the awards’ patron, the legendary Kenyan athlete Paul Tergat.
The awards are aimed at feting the best sportsmen in Kenya for the past year and Tergat, while confirming Mboma’s participation stated that the intention of bringing him is to motivate sportsmen in the country.
“M’Boma is a good friend of mine and one of the biggest footballers in our continent. We trust that his presence here will be a motivation to other sportsmen to work hard and achieve what he has achieved,” he said.
Mboma will be landing in Kenya on Thursday 14 January.
Gor Mahia striker Michael Olunga has been nominated for the Sportsman of the Year Award while his club will be contesting for the Team of the Year Award.
Former KCB midfielder Paul Kiongera, currently with Tanzania giants Simba has also been nominated in the Comeback of the Year Award category.
