It is now becoming a little of a norm for former stars to speak well of Kenyan midfielder Victor Wanyama who plies his trade with Barclays Premier League side Southampton FC and the latest has been former Cameroon striker Patrick Mboma.
Mboma will be the chief guest at the 2016 Sportsman of the Year Award (SOYA) gala on Friday 15 January and in his address upon touching down, termed Wanyama as a quality player and one of the best at Southampton at the moment.
He however challenged that for the midfielder to get to his full potential, he has to work for a big move in future.
“I watched him for the first time while I was analyzing a Champions League match in Glasgow for French television Canal+ and I saw a lot of quality. It was a great thing for him to move to Southampton and now he is one of the best players in that team.
“But today, if I walk around France and ask anyone if they know Wanyama, almost half of them will say no. But if he moves to a bigger team, it means a bigger challenge for him and a chance for him to raise his profile. He has all the qualities to play at the top level and will one day be one of the players in the running for player of the year,” he said.
