Mikel Benched as Chelsea, Spurs share the spoils

Mikel-benched-in Chelsea draw

Super Eagles Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi was an unused substitute for Blues in their drab goalless draw against Tottenham Hotspur in Sunday’s Premier League clash at White Hart Lane.

It was  Chelsea’s third clean sheet in the league this season.

The defending Premier League champions have endured a difficult season so far, securing just 15 points from 14 league games, which sees them languishing in an uncharacteristic 14th place.

It was the third straight game the Nigerian international was sitting on the bench for the Blues who moved up one spot to 14th on the log.

His last appearance for the Jose Mourinho’s side was against Liverpool which they lost 3-1 at Stamford Bridge where he was yellow carded.

Mikel has made five appearances for the Blues in the EPL this season totaling 175 minutes of football.

Just as the 28 year old was on the bench, African duo of Baba Rahman and Papy Djilobodji also watched from the sidelines.

Tottenham have now extended their unbeaten run to 12 games in the league at home where Chelsea have won just once in their last nine trips.
