Kenyan international Paul Were played his first full match for his Greek side in the Greece Cup clash pitting his Kalloni team against PAOK, home to former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov on Wednesday 6 January.
Prior to the game, Were had on overall amassed just 71 minutes with just two starts but he was handed a full game in the knockout clash and he went on to prove himself with a number of eye catching moves.
Greek defender Anastasiadis Anestis opened the scoring for Kalloni, on the third minute and 30 year old midfielder Fostis Georgiou doubled the lead in the 78th minute but Robert Mak scored late on for PAOK though the goal only stood as a conolation.
Bulgarian Berbatov was introduced as a 60th minute sub in the game but he did little to salvage his side from the jaws of defeat with Kalloni proving the hungrier of the two.
In other matches played on the night, Platanias FC were held to a goalless draw by Atromitos FC with Ronald Vargas’ solo strike being the difference in AEK Athens’ 1-0 win over Levadiakos. Panionios also managed a 1-0 win over Ergotelis.
