Bucs main man Oupa Manyisa was out injured for much of last season, and this pre-season will be key to him picking up his full fitness.
Orlando Pirates spoke with Manyisa and goalkeeper Brighton Mhlongo about their camp.
Pirates official: How’s the camp?
Oupa Manyisa: “Yes, it’s been great, I mean we were bonding as a team and the preparations are going well for the upcoming season”.
Pirates: How are you finding the new coach’s methodology?
Manyisa: “Well he is definitely a good Coach. I am happy with what he wants and all the players are adjusting to his coaching methods as well. You know we camped for a whole week and it’s all sinking in which is why I can’t wait for the start of the new season”.
“He wants us to be organised and play as a team, work as a unit, be patient in approach and believe in our talent as a unit. There is no room for individualism, as Coach Muhsin puts it, we win as a team and we lose as a team. Whether we are attacking or defending it doesn’t matter, he wants us to fight as a team”.
Pirates: Hi Brighton, how is the mood in the camp?
Mhlongo: “So far so good, the spirits are high and we are all getting used to the new Coach. The great thing about the new players is that we already knew each other from when they were with their old teams. So now we are just gelling and supporting each other. The mood in the camp is absolutely awesome, it actually doesn’t feel like there are any new players and you can see with the way everyone carries on that we have a strong spirit of unity and camaraderie”.
Pirates: What is your take on your new team mates?
Mhlongo: “The new players are a good addition to the team, they also want to prove themselves and show that they are here on merit which is a good thing. We have become more of a cohesive unit, there are individuals here. We see each other and interact with each other as a team”.
“As senior players we have done our best to welcome the new guys and we have made them aware that our supporters expect to win. They mustn’t focus on the pressure but rather relax, enjoy the journey and understand that we are a family here. The important thing for them is to always remember who they are and never lose sight of their goals”.
