Thika United eased past National Super League side Moyas FC in the two teams’ second round clash of the GOtv Shield, played at the Ruaraka Stadium on Sunday 31 July.
Dennis Odhiambo opened the scoring with a well taken penalty in the 16th minute before Nigerian forward Onuodi Chibueze scored his second goal in Thika United colours six minutes after the restart to kill the tie and secure a place in the third round.
In earlier matches played on the day, AFC Leopards confirmed its place in the last 16 with a 2 – 0 win over Kakamega Homeboyz at the Mumias Sports Complex while Bidco edged out Wazito FC at the same venue in an all – NSL fixture.
Ten time KPL champions Tusker FC will also be in the next round after seeing off Uprising FC 3 – 0 while defending champions Bandari FC labored to earn their place after a 2 – 1 win over Nakumatt in a repeat of the 2015 final.
The Bandari – Nakumatt game came after Kariobangi Sharks had sealed their place in the third round courtesy of a 7 – 6 win over Palos FC on post match penalties after a 2 – 2 draw.
Perhaps the biggest shock of the round was third tier side GFE 105 FC’s 1 – 0 win over KCB, a result that dumped out the former KPL side.
Western Stima and Nzoia United had routine wins in the round, beating Fresha FC and Kiambu AllStars 4 – 0 and 2 – 0 respectively.
Zetech 2 – 0 Butterfly FC
Agrochemicals FC 1 – 0 Vihiga United
Chemelil Sugar 3 – 2 Nairobi City Stars
Gor Mahia 2 – 0 Nairobi Stima
Modern Coast 5 – 1 Tiki
Muhoroni Youth 0 – 2 Ulinzi Stars
