Chelsea Coach Antonio Conte has applauded the performance of Anglo-Nigerian youngster Ola Aina in the 3-0 win over Austrian side, Wolfsberger AC in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday night.
Aina had a good half playing as a left back before switching to right back at the start of the second half following the introduction of Baba Rahman.
Still eligible to star for Nigeria, the England youth international (Aina) showed plenty of promise and was applauded by Conte during the game when he got his body on the way of a threatening cross.
“Aina is showing the Academy is a good school and it is very important for the club. It’s a new source, ” Conte said in his post match comments, according to chelseafc.com.
With the display by Aina, Conte admitted that he is keen to see other youngsters-some of Nigerian origin on the Chelsea books.
“In the future I want to see other young players like Abraham and Solanke. I am very happy to have young players to work with and that I can improve and permit to become Chelsea first team players, not young players.”
Aside Aina, Super Eagles star Victor Moses also made the most of the chance given to him again by Conte; contributing in the first two goals scored by Chelsea.
Moses’ compatriot, Mikel on his part was given a cameo role having been introduced five minutes from time as Blues beat their Austrian opponents 3-0.
