Kenyan international defender David Cheche Ochieng has completed the move to US side New York Cosmos. The terms of the deal were however not disclosed, as posted on the website, due to the club’s policy.
The defender makes the move on the back of a setback as his proposed move to Swedish side IF Djugarden hit a snag.
The club’s Head Coach and Sporting Director Giovanni Savarese is quoted on the club website, stating that the club is excited to land the defender and backs him to strengthen the team, especially in defence.
“We’re excited to have David here with us for the 2016 season. He is a young, talented National team player that can enhance our strength in the middle of our defence,” the coach said.
Cheche, also quoted on the website, said he want to contribute to the team’s success in 2016.
“Joining the New York Cosmos is a privilege. I know this is a team with great history, and one that now prides itself on strong defence. I hope to contribute to that reputation through hard work,” he told the club’s website.
The defender’s rising profile saw him skipper the Kenya national team in the 2015 CECAFA Senior Challenge in Ethiopia.
