Akwa United players get N2m each for Fed Cup victory

Players of Nigeria Premier League side, Akwa United are set for a memorable festive season as news from Uyo, capital of Akwa Ibom State indicate that Governor Udom Emmanuel has rewarded the team with N2m each and residential apartment for winning the 2015 Federation Cup.

The Governor congratulated the team for the victory, stating that they have written the state’s name in gold in the 70 years history of the Federation Cup.

Governor Emmanuel described the feat recorded by the team as a testimony anchored on the Dakkada (stand-up) philosophy of greatness which seeks to promote unity and greatness among Akwa Ibom people.

This Naira rain will come as a big relief as Akwa United players were largely ‘orphans’ for the better part of the just concluded season in which they only escaped relegation on the last day of action in the league; defeating Lobi Stars to keep their elite status.

Coincidentally, the Benue State team were at the receiving end yet again, in the November 22, 2015 Federation Cup final where the Promise Keepers smiled away with a 2-1 win.

With the Federation Cup triumph, Akwa United will be making a debut appearance in the continent as they will be flying Nigeria’s flag in the CAF Confederation Cup.
