The Tanzania national team captain Nadir Canavarro Haroub has stated that he will be retiring from international football with immediate effect.
Haroub, who also skippers Tanzanian Premier League giants Yanga SC was recently stripped of the national team captaincy with the award winning Mbwana Samatta installed as the new skipper and it is thought the move was the reason for his decision.
However, he says his decision is informed by the fact that he has been at the top for long enough and felt time was ripe for him to move on and free the chance for an upcoming player.
“I have served my country for a good ten years and I have done a lot and achieved a lot so I feel it is time I left the space for others to come and play for Taifa Stars and I wish them the best in future.
“I believe I have made the right decision and at the right time and I believe there are many good young players coming up to take up my slot,” he said.
Haroub’s troubles started when the Tanzania national team was whacked 7 – 0 by Algeria in the second leg of the second round of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and he takes a bitter pill into retirement as he says he will refocus his energies on helping his club, Yanga.
