Real Madrid were outplayed at their own turf in the Group A UEFA Champions League clash with PSG on Tuesday 3 November but still managed to sail through courtesy of a 1 – 0 win that came against the run of play.
Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo was the first with a goal attempt as he looked to give his team a fast start but his shot at goal was not well powered and PSG keeper Trapp made an easy save.
PSG picked some good possession and started dominating well though watching out for Real Madrid’s danger.
The hosts had a scare on the 10th minute when from a Toni Kroos corner, Isco and Serge Aurier went high and collided, leaving Isco with a bloodied face though he managed to recover and continue.
PSG was not so lucky though as Italian midfielder Marco Veratti was injured on the 13th minute and had to be withdrawn, his place taken up by Adrian Rabiot.
On the 29th minute Zlatan Ibrahimovic almost curled in a free kick and minutes later Marcelo was forced out with injury, Real Madrid manager Rafa Benitez sending in Nacho as replacement.
Nacho, introduced to the game in the 32nd minute, needed just three minutes to open the scoring. Kroos had a shot deflect off Thiago Silva and strayed well into Nacho’s path and with the keeper off his line, Nacho had an easy job picking his spot.
Despite falling behind, PSG still dominated proceedings at one time Di Maria picking out Edison Cavani with a splitter but Cavani could not beat Keylor Navas and with the dominance, they couldn’t get anything as the teams broke for half time and come the second half it was the same story.
The Real Madrid defence did well to keep out PSG attacks as the French side kept knocking and the best chance came to PSG on the 88th minute with Di Maria curling a free kick past the wall, beating Navas only to watch in agony as the ball bounced off the bar.
With Shakhtar Donetsk hitting Malmo 4 – 0 Real Madrid is assured of a spot in the round of 16 with two matches to spare.
