Tottenham, Chelsea, Dembele charged

Tottenham Hotspurs midfielder Mousa Dembele along with his team and Chelsea have been charged by the FA for violent conduct after ugly incidents marred the match at Stamford Bridge on Monday 2 May.

Dembele was captured on camera appearing to gouge Chelsea striker Diego Costa in the eye and the incident went unpunished but not unnoticed by the independent review panel.

The Belgian, Dembele has until Thursday 5 May in the evening to respond to the charge and a guilty verdict will mean he serves a three game ban, which will rule him out of the rest of the season as well as the start of 2016/17 season.

An FA statement said: “It is alleged the player’s behaviour constituted violent conduct in circumstances where the standard punishment of three matches that would otherwise apply is clearly insufficient.”

The two clubs have also been charged with failing to control their players and have until Monday 9 May to respond.
