Higuain’s four-game ban to be appealed by Napoli

Napoli have confirmed that they will appeal the four-match ban to star striker Gonzalo Higuain.

The club’s lawyer, Mattia Grassani reveals that an application to the Court of Appeals will be made after the Argentine was dismissed during his side’s 3-1 defeat to Udinese on Sunday for putting his hands on the chest of referee Massimiliano Irrati.

However, the appeal is not expected to be heard until late next week, meaning the former Real Madrid star will miss Napoli’s match against Serie A’s bottom side Verona on Sunday.

“We have asked to make an application to the Court of Appeals over Higuain’s ban,” Grassani told ANSA. “When we have the paperwork we can precisely delineate our defensive strategy.

“After we receive the documents we’ll have seven days to appeal, by reading the content of the report.”

Napoli are six points behind league leaders Juventus with eight games left in the season.
