According to Italian publication Tuttosport, Arsenal are ready to beat Liverpool to the signing of Alvaro Morata with a massive £61m swoop.
The Juventus forward who has scored 18 in 37 starts for the Old Lady is current subject of a £45m bid from Anfield but Arsene Wenger is desperate to get the player and will summit a £61m offer before the close of the January transfer window.
However, the 23-year-old has just one Serie A goal to his name this season after he fell behind Croatian international Mario Mandzukic and Argentine meastro Paulo Dybala.
The Gunners are in a position to win the premier league title for the first since 2003-04 and Wenger belives that the former Real Morata rookie can effectively support Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott as they aim to achieve their goal.
Arsenal had been previous linked with Karim Benzema and Robert Lewandowski but Morata looks the most likeliest to get and he could prove a major signing if the Emirates landlords pull it off.
