Algeria have reignited their chances of qualifying for the 2016 Rio Olympics men’s football event after romping to a 2-0 win over Mali in their Group B clash at the Caroline Faye Stadium, M’Bour on Wednesday.
Zinedine Ferhat got the opener midway into the second half before an own goal by Youssouf Traore in the closing stages secured the first victory for the Algerians at the ongoing tournament in Senegal.
Unfortunately, the defeat- the second on the bounce as eliminated the Malians out of the Africa U23 Cup of Nations which is also serving as the Olympic Qualifiers.
With this victory, Algeria have momentarily gone top with four points and could stay put depending on the outcome of the Nigeria, Egypt match coming up later this evening.
Algeria will play against the Dream Team VI in their final group game.
Mali remains at the bottom with no point and they will be wrapping up their campaign against Egypt on Saturday with just pride at stake for them.
