Magesi FC are a relatively new club from the Limpopo province, having only come into existence in 2011, but has already built a strong connection to the Nedbank Cup competition.

The owners created the club when they bought the SAFA Second Division status of Peace Lovers FC, a side who competed in the Nedbank Cup in both the 2009 and 2010 competitions.

In 2009 they lost to eventual champions Moroka Swallows 4-0 in the second round, having ousted fellow third-tier side Real Madrid in the Last 32. The following year they were beaten 2-1 by National First Division side Thanda Royal Zulu.

And the team competed again, this time as Magesi FC, in the 2013 Nedbank Cup. On that occasion they were ousted by Jomo Cosmos 2-0 in the Last 32.

The side is coached by former AmaZulu striker and 2003/04 Premier Soccer League top-goalscorer Jackie Ledwaba and have been firing on all cylinders this season.

Aside from reaching the Last 32 of the Nedbank Cup, the club had taken 25 out of a possible 27 points in their Limpopo ABC Motsepe League campaign.

This after topping the division in the last two seasons, only to suffer heartache in the national playoffs.

“We have been doing very well this season and are looking forward to the Nedbank Cup,” CEO Solly Makhubela says. “We have some very good youngsters in the team mixed in with players who are experienced in the ABC Motsepe League.”

The team plays its home matches at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
