Pochettino lauds players after Liverpool draw

Mane was a constant thorn for Spurs

Tottenham Hotspurs manager Mauricio Pochettino was full of praise for his charges after they clawed their way from a goal down to hold Liverpool to a 1 – 1 draw in the Barclays Premier League game staged at the White Hart Lane on Saturday 27 August.

James Milner opened the scoring from the penalty spot just before the break after Erik Lamela was adjudged to have felled Roberto Firmino in the box but in the second half the impressive Danny Rose levelled matters for the hosts to see the teams share spoils.

In his post match reactions, Pochettino admitted it was a tough clash and lauded his players for a good show of character and the effort they put in despite a change in formation when Kyle Walker was injured in the first half.

“It was a very tough game, both teams played with passion, that is important and I thought we showed character. I’m only pleased with the players, the effort they made on the pitch was fantastic.

“It’s difficult to play and to show good football when both teams want to press and both teams have such good players. I thought we started very well but the problem was we had to change our plan. In the second half, we showed lots of character; that was fantastic, so we need to be pleased with our players,” he told the official Spurs website.
