Mario Balotelli cannot just stop being on the headlines, whether good or bad.
And he was on the headlines for both reasons on Sunday as he scored the winner for Nice, but then got sent off only six minutes later in the 2-1 win over Lorient.
The former Inter Milan striker smashed the ball into the top corner in the 86th minute to send his side to the top of the Ligue 1 table.
Balotelli cut inside from the left-side of the box and rifled home an effort from 18 yards to net his sixth goal in five matches for Nice, but was shown a yellow card for taking off his shirt in celebration.
If you thought that would be the end of any more incidents given how late his goal came, you’re in for another thing.
As the game went into stoppage time, he was involved in an altercation with Lorient defender Steven Moreira, earning both men a yellow card.
Ultimately, it was a harsh decision, considering it was the Lorient defender who cause the altercation, but the fans appreciated the Italian’s efforts.
Balotelli was given a standing ovation by the Nice supporters as he trudged off to the sidelines.
