Real Madrid secured a comprehensive 5-1 win over Legia Warsaw in their match day three UEFA Champions League group stage clash at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium on Tuesday night.
Coach Zinedine Zidan’s side scored three goals in the first half and added two more in the second half but Cristiano Ronaldo was conspicuously missing on the goals scorers’ sheet.
Many had expected the Portuguese star to be the center of attraction as he was only two goals away from hitting a milestone of 100 goals in European Club competition.
However, it was Gareth Bale that set the tone for the day as Welsh man hit the opening goal of the match in the 16th minute.
Real’s second goal came in the 20th minute when an effort from Captain Marcelo was deflected in by a Legia Warsaw defender.
The visitors pulled one back from the penalty spot through Miroslav Radovic but Real Madrid’s two-goal cushion was restored byMarco Asensio in the 37th minute.
The second half goals came off substitutes Lucas Vazquez and Alvaro Morata
Meanwhile, with riots that greeted the first leg, the UEFA commission announced that the second leg of Real Madrid vs Legia Warsaw will be closed to the public.
The decision was made in order to avoid any further incidents from happening, and to keep the players on both teams safe.
