Brondby midfielder Lebogang Phiri was allegedly called a “monkey” by Panathinaikos striker Marcus Berg in a Europa League match on Thursday night.
Berg was actually the one that terrorized the Brondby defence, scoring two goals in a 3-0 thrashing.
The South African midfielder, Phiri made the racial claim to Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet after the match.
“Marcus Berg went past me and called me a monkey,” Phiri said, as reported in English on Goal.com
“I have never, ever experienced anything like this. It is a total lack of respect for other people.
“I am shocked that this could happen and certainly will not be compared to an animal. It is shocking to experience.”
According to the same newspaper, Phiri’s team-mate Rodolph Austin heard the alleged abuse.
