Nigerian youngster Sheyi Ojo scored for Liverpool in their latest pre-season friendly against Roma but ended up on the losing side as the Serie A giants ran out 2-1 winners at the Busch Stadium in Missouri.
The 19-year-old who impressed in the 2-0 victory over AC Milan on Saturday was lively again in the early hours of this morning as he put in a strong performance for manager Jurgen Klopp.
But it was Roma that took the lead when former Manchester City forward Edin Dzeko scored the opener but the Reds fought back and Ojo headed in on the struck of half-time to level at 1-1.
However, Egyptian maestro Mohamed Salah scored from a rebound in the second half after Dzeko’s shot had been saved by Simon Mignolet in goal for Liverpool but for Roma the biggest cheer went to Dutchman Kevin Strootman who in the match following his comeback from a nightmare 12 months with injury.
On Ojo, klopp said:
“He’s a wonderful player for sure and his future is 100% at Liverpool.”
“I don’t think we have to make a decision so early (on whether to send Ojo on loan), we have time and we have to use the time. He has already had a few injuries, not the biggest but in the wrong place, I would say. We have to be cool and train to make the boys as fit as possible.
“Ojo has been with us for five days or something, he came directly from the U19 tournament. We will see but his future is at Liverpool.”
Ojo took his opportunity under Klopp last season as he made eight appearances in the Premier League with three in the FA Cup while providing four assist in the process and scoring a goal in the 3-0 victory replay over Exeter City.
