Tottenham Hotspur failed to win the 2015/16 premier league title or finish ahead of Arsenal as wished but will be satisfied that forward Harry Kane won the Golden Boot ahead Sergio Aguero and Jamie Vardy and the club will be involved in the UEFA Champions League next season.
The 23-year-old becomes the first English player to win the accolade after Kevin Phillips who won the award in 2000.
Kane had scored 25 goals going into the final game of the season with Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero and Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy both on 24 goals but surprisingly all three did not score.
Kane was a shadow of his usual self as Newcastle United hammered an uninspiring Spurs team 5-1. It was painful for Spurs fans because the Magpies were down to ten men after Aleksandar Mitrovic was sent off.
The defeat was even sadder as it ensured that Arsenal finished ahead of Maurice Pochettino’s men.
But the consolation is that Aguero and Vardy failed to score on the final day of the season, leaving the Tottenham striker as the topscorer of the 2015/16 premier league.
