Nigerian youngster Kelechi Iheancho has vowed to help Manchester City bounce back from their latest defeat against Southampton and has shifted his focus to Wednesday’s match away to Real Madrid in the second leg semifinal of the UEFA Champions League.
The 19-year-old followed up his brace last week against Stoke City with his 13th goal of the season with another brace against the Saints but ended up on the losing side as the Citizens lost 4-2.
Southampton raced to a 2-0 lead courtesy goals from Shane Long and Manchester United target Saido Mane but Iheanacho reduced the deficit with a smart header just before half-time.
Ronald Koeman’s men wrapped the game up in the second half as Senegalese star Mane grabbed a second and third to make it 4-1 while Iheanacho scored a late consolidation to complete his brace for the second consecutive week.
“Many things went wrong in our team,” Iheanacho said. “We lost so many balls and didn’t defend well.
“I think we’re going to come stronger in the next game.
“This game didn’t give us enough encouragement. But we will put it behind us and focus on the Real Madrid game.”
Manchester City are now fourth on the premier league log with 65points, two points behind Arsenal in third.
