Oghenekaro Etebo has been ruled out of Nigeria’s quarterfinal Olympic Games football match against Denmark, fcnaija.com can confirm.
The 20-year old suffered an injury in the 2-0 loss to Colombia in their final group game and will now not be available for the game against Denmark in Salvador.
The Feirense of Portugal striker scored four goals in Nigeria’s opening game as they beat Japan 5-4, and has been potent force for the Nigerian attack in their subsequent games, but he has failed to recover in time for Saturday’s game.
Meanwhile, Junior Ajayi, who hasn’t featured in any of the games played so far, will be available for selection, after recovering from injury, fcnaija.com has also learnt.
“Etebo is out of the Denmark game, but Junior Ajayi is back,” a source in the team informed fcnaija.com.
The new Al Ahly of Egypt of striker got injured during their training tour of the United States and hasn’t featured since the start of the Olympic Games, but has now been declared fit to feature against the Danes.
“Medical team rule out Etebo from Q-finals but will be available if team progresses to s-final, Junior Ajayi available for q-final,” press officer Timi Ebikagboro confirmed in a statement.
The game comes up at 8pm Nigerian time.
