Do you know that John Ogu is an Arsenal fan? Well he just told us with a lovely tweet to express his love for his football idol, Nwankwo Kanu after watching him score a hat-trick against the AC Milan legends at the Emirates yesterday.
The Hapoel Beer Sheva midfielder like every other Gunners fan around the world watched as the Nigerian single-handedly destroyed the backline of AC Milan in a charity match to raise £1m to build pitches across England and for refugees in Somalia and Jordan.
The 40-year-old initially caused a mini drama when he thought he was selected to start the game and made the Arsenal team 12 instead of 11 but an Eagle-eyed Howard Webb who was the referee for the night spotted it and asked the Nigerian to leave the pitch which stirred a huge cheer from the fans with Papilo acknowledging them.
However, Kanu came on with just 25 minutes on the clock and the rest is history as the fans chanted to manager: “Wenger, Wenger sign him up!” – those emotions were also felt by Ogu who revealed that the former Ajax star is the only reason why he decided to support the North London side.
“Almost in tears watching @papilokanu today against Milan legends. The reason I became a fan of @Arsenal ..#KING,” Ogu tweeted.
Ogu was voted the best foreign player in Israel last season as he helped Beer Sheva win the league for the first time ever.
