Former Nigerian International Jonathan Akpoborie has hailed the decision by Dream Team VI coach Samson Siasia to include Victor Osimhen in his final squad for CAF U-23 Championships currently ongoing in Senegal.
Osimhen was part of the national U-17 team that won the World Cup for a record five times but was singled out for praise as he emerged the competition topscorer with ten goals a tally that puts him on top of the all-time list in the history of the competition.
However, contrary to popular opinions that the 19-year-old was too young for a quick step up to the U-23’s but Siasia ceased the opportunity of the absence of Isaac Success due to club commitments to extend invitation to Osimhen and Akpoborie is happy with the manager’s choice.
‘It’s a fantastic decision by Samson Siasia to invite Osimhen to the U-23 team,’ he exclusively told Football366.com in a chat.
The attack of the Dream Team VI looks very youthful with the addition of Osimhen to the forward line to join the likes of Ajayi Jr, Awoniyi, Etebo, and Kufre Ebong.
Nigeria began the 2015 CHAN tournament with a nervy 3-2 win against Mali in their first game played yesterday.
