A Danny Welbeck goal helped Arsenal beat relegation threatened Norwich City 1-0 at the Emirates.
The game at the Emirates were marred by fans protest as a section of the Gunners fans held placards calling for the resignation of manager Arsene Wenger while some wanted him to stay.
It was obvious that the mood inside the stadium were affecting the home side as they had no shot on target in the first half despite their 69 percent possession compared to the visitors 31 percent and three shots on target.
Norwich battling relegation went close as Martin Olsson played in Nathan Redmond at the back post but his first shot was well saved by Petr Cech in goal for Arsenal.
The home side struggled to create chances despite having a lion share of the possession on the day and nearly fell behind but Cech was again in good form as he saved comfortably from Cameron Jerome’s long range strike.
Just before half-time, Wesley Hoolahan’s cross was deflected into the part of Redmond and again it required a big save from Cech as the visitors went in at half-time brimming with confidence.
Arsenal lost Captain of the day Per Mertesacker to a hamstring injury at the start of the second half and he was replaced by Brazilian defender Gabriel Paulista while manager Arsene Wenger sent on Danny Welbeck for Alex Iwobi.
The former Manchester United forward made an immediate impact as he collected a knock down from Olivier Giroud and fired past John Ruddy in goal for the visitor to make it 1-0.
Mesut Ozil got in on the action as he nearly made it 2-0 with a powerful left foot shot from 25yards but his efforts sailed slightly over the bar – looked like the keeper got a hand to it but the referee only gave a goal kick.
Norwich goalkeeper Ruddy was again called upon and this time he made a superb stop from Mohamed Elneny who collected a neat pass from Alexis Sanchez before unleashing his effort.
That was the last contribution seen from the Chilean as he was substituted for Francis Coquelin as the Gunners shored up the midfield and protected the defence which helped them see out the win to help them move third on the premier league log.
