NPFL: Sunshine Stars not owing backroom staff

President of Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure, Prince John Ola Mafo has described as unfortunate and malicious reports in some sections of the media that the Akure based team is owing its backroom staff seven (7) months of salary arrears.

Reacting to the report in some media organisations, Prince Mafo who is also the Chairman of the Ondo State Football Agency said the club is not owing seven months of
salary arrears.

“We are very surprised with this type of reports. We also take exception to it in totality. The backroom staff of Sunshine Stars comprise of the coaches, team manager and his assistant, physical trainer, kit manager, masseur, and the ball boys. All these set of staff get their salaries at the same time with the players, so we are
surprised to hear this type of news”.

“We know that this news emanated from some people who are enemies of the team and are determined to bring the team down at all cost. But we are determined to remain focused and resolute in a bid to realise our ambition this soccer season.

“It has been said times without number that the initial problems of the team at the beginning of the season were the efforts of the enemies and now that the team has overcome such, they have come out with this report to distract the team”.

The ODSFA boss restated his commitment to make the welfare of the players under the charge of the agency top priority.

“We have resolved to always make the players very happy by giving top attention to their welfare. The players are the actors and actresses, they are the reasons why we are all here. Our success or otherwise (God forbid) will be measured by the performance of the players.

“This is why we have made up our minds to do everything possible to always make the players very happy at all times so that we can always get the best from them.

“It is not easy to maintain the workforce met on ground, but I have made up my mind as a politician and God fearing man not to disengage any member of staff”.

Sunshine Stars will this weekend confront Heartland of Owerri in a week 13 match of the Nigeria Professional Football League billed for the Dan Anyawu Stadium in Owerri as they hope to continue the unbeaten runs.
