Tusker FC forward Jesse Were has been named the 2015 Magharibi Michezo Awards Football of the Year in the gala held in Bungoma County.
Were, the Tusker FC skipper guided the team to a fifth place finish in the just concluded season, 20 scoring a total of 27 goals for the club in 33 matches in all competitions and was also nominated for the Most Valuable Player in the 2015 KPL Awards.
He beat his team mate Noah Wafula to the award. Other nominees for the award were former KCB forward Paul Kiongera, AFC Leopards duo of Bernard Mangoli and Edwin Wafula as well as Sofapaka defender Collins Shivachi.
Were is the third player to win the award after Noah Wafula in 2013 (then at AFC Leopards) and Anthony Ndolo in 2014 (then at Sofapaka).
Ulinzi Stars midfielder John Mark Makwatta was also feted. He scooped the Special Recognition Award to cap a good season after scoring 14 goals in the season, t guide his team to a second place finish.
