Man City 1-0 PSG: De Bruyne shoots City into semifinal

City - PSG

Kevin de Bruyne was the hero for Manchester City as they secured a place in the UEFA Champions League semifinal courtesy a 1-0 victory over French Champions Paris Saint-Germain at the Etihad.

Manchester City went into the game needing just a goal or goalless draw to qualify for the semifinal for the first time ever after playing 2-2 away in France.

However, it was Paris Saint-Germain that had the first clear shot on target as star man Zlatan Ibrahimovic fired in a bullet free kick from 31yards but it was tipped over the bar by the very alert Joe Hart in goal for the home side.

At the other end, the Manuel Pellegrini’s side was given a penalty when Sergio Aguero was brought down by the PSG goalkeeper Trapp, the Argentine picked himself up and took the freekick but he missed target completely.

The away side were sloppy with play at the back as Ivorian defender Aurier who was recalled to the squad after his spat with the manager Laurent Blanc, gifted the ball to Jesus Navas on the edge of the box but the Spaniard placed his shot wide.

The French Champions suffered a blow as Italian midfielder Thiago Motta went of injured and replaced by Brazilian winger Lucas Moura but he had little impact as the first half ended goalless.

PSG began the second half brighter as they won a freekick, 25yards away from goal – Ibrahimovic hit the ball brilliantly but was equally met by a great save just like in the first half.

At the other end, Fernando managed to get the better of Marquinhos from a City corner but his header was poor and went off target.

Aurier went off for Javier Pastore and the first contribution of the Argentine was to pick up a yellow card for a foul on Mangala.

Thiago Silva nearly scored from a corner but his header was saved by Joe Hart and at the other end Manchester City took the lead as Belgium star Kevin de Bruyne scored from the edge of the box after the visitors failed to clear properly.
