Rwandan midfielder Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza, a soldier by profession, answered to the call of national duty on Thursday when he stepped forth from a defensive position to score the equalizer when his nation was staring at being stopped at the semi final stage in the ongoing CECAFA Senior Challenge.

He scored the leveler against Sudan deep in time added on to see the tie head to post match spot kicks and scored one as Rwanda went on to win 5 – 3 and book a slot in the final on Saturday.

Speaking of the feat, he termed it a great moment for him, stating that against Sudan it was not an easy clash and heading to the final, he expects an even tougher encounter against 13 – time champions Uganda Cranes.

“I am pleased with my contribution to the team so far and I am glad that we are in the final. The semi final match against Sudan was not an easy encounter and I am grateful to God for getting the goal that leveled matters for us.

“I know it will not be easy in the final but we are ready for the challenge. We will prepare ourselves well for the clash and hope for the best,” he said.

The final, and the third place playoff clash pitting Sudan against hosts Ethiopia, will be staged at the Addis Ababa Stadium on the same day – Saturday.
