Real Madrid 2 – 0 AS Roma: Spanish giants sail through

Cristiano Ronaldo and James Rodrigues scored quickfire goals that saw Spanish giants beat the visiting AS Roma 2 – 0 the UEFA Champions League second round clash staged at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday 8 March.
Roma Went to the game on the back of a 0 – 2 home loss and it was evident in their attacking at the opening stages. Stephan El Shaarawy clipped in a floated ball from the left, looking for the lanky figure of Edin Dzeko. Real Madrid keeper Keylor Navas was alert though, coming out to punch the ball to safety.
Edin Dzeko should have given the visitors the lead after a mazy run saw Mohamed Salah release him and with just Navas to beat but the striker panicked and blazed wide.
Just like it was on the weekend the home side was treated to a lot of whistles, this time mostly targeted at James Rodrigues.
Real Madrid took cue from the escape and barraged the Roma area with a series of attacks but on loan Arsenal keeper Wojciech Szczesny made a number of big saves as Roma found themselves pressed to their own half.
Another burst forward by Roma saw Salah miss another good chance as the teams headed to the break barren when the Italians should have scored at least three goals.
Then cometh the hour; Zinedine Zidane pulled out Gareth Bale for Lucas Vasquez and the youngs5er had an immediate impact, bamboozling the left wing with great footwork before releasing Ronaldo to open the scoring on 64 minutes.
Ronaldo turned provider on 67 minutes, slipping the ball to James Rodrigues and the Colombian returned the favor by slamming the ball through the Roma keeper’s legs to complete the rout, 4 – 0 on aggregate.
