Kelechi Iheanacho’s dad, James, has hailed Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini for the opportunities he has given his son at the club, following the youngsters brace in the Premier League over the weekend.
The younger Iheanacho scored twice in City’s 4-0 defeat of Stoke City on Saturday, taking his tally to 11 in 31 games in all competitions this season, and James believes the outgoing City boss deserves commendation for the opportunities given to his son.
“He (Pellegrini) is a man with vision,” he said regarding the Chilean’s decision to keep the youngster ahead of the more experienced Edin Dzeko.
“He loves Kelechi because he knows what he (Kelechi) can do and he has given him opportunities to play and Kelechi has taken those opportunities.
“Kelechi is always thankful for that and he always does his best to deliver for the manager too and he will continue to do that for as long as he remains with the club,” James Iheanacho told fcnaija in an exclusive interview.
There were initial fears whether he had made the right decision when the 19-year old chose City ahead of FC Porto after he excelled at the 2013 FIFA under-17 World Cup, but James Iheanacho in an earlier interview with fcnaija shortly after City won the League Cup, said he had been vindicated by the move.
“I am happy and glad that God is doing everything for me and proving me right,” he said.
