Watford have handed versatile full-back Ikechi Anya a long term contract extension at Vicarage Road.
The Watford wide-man becomes the latest player to be rewarded with a long term deal following the footsteps of Nigerian international Odion Ighalo who most committed his future to Watford in a deal that will keep him at Vicarage Road until 2020.
Originally signed on loan from Granada in the summer of 2012, Anya completed a permanent transfer to Watford a year later following a successful first campaign back in England.
The club in a statement on its website confirmed the new deal signed by the 27-year old defender.
“WATFORD FC are delighted to announce that Ikechi Anya has signed a new long-term deal with the Hornets.
“The 27-year-old who has made 110 appearances for the Golden Boys and scored nine goals has agreed a new five-year contract at Vicarage Road.” The club statement read.
Equally comfortable operating on the wing or at full-back where he has featured in recent Premier League fixtures for Watford – the Glasgow-born star who is of Nigerian descent earned his first Scotland call-up in September 2013.
He has since gone on to collect 17 international caps, most notably scoring against world champions Germany during a Euro 2016 qualifier in September 2014.
