New Lillestrom of Norway signing Ifeanyi Matthew has told fcnaija.com he must always prove himself if he is to excel abroad, following his move to Europe from Nigeria.
The Nigeria international completed a move to Lillestrom from Kano Pillars on Thursday, signing a four-year contract with the Tippeligaen side and while expressing delight at the move, he concedes he must keep proving himself if he is to become a great player.
“I feel really happy for the move and I thank God for making it possible for me, but I have to keep proving myself,” he said.
“My desire is to become one of the great players Nigeria has produced and to do that, I have to prove myself here.”
The 20-year old has been a star of the Nigerian league over the last two seasons, and his impressive displays earned him a place in Nigeria’s team to the African Nations Championship (CHAN) earlier in the year and he has also been a fringe member of the regular Super Eagles team, as well as a regular member of the home-based Super Eagles over the last year.
He was also a member of Nigeria’s U20 squad to last year’s FIFA U20 World Cup in New Zealand.
He will resume immediately with Lillestrom, as the Norwegian league has been underway.
