Obafemi Martins looks to be playing himself closer to a return to the Nigeria national team as he again showed capability; scoring the equaliser in Seattle Sounders 1-1 draw against Houston Dynamo early Monday morning.
The latest goal for Martins is the 15th in 2015 and he has again given national team handlers all the reason to look at his way in their search for prolific goal scorers to deliver for the Super Eagles.
After a scoreless first half of play, Houston who also have a Nigerian, Olabiyi Rasheed in their books earned the lead in the 65th minute of the contest through Ricardo Clark.
After referee Edvin Jurisevic played advantage during a Dynamo counterattack, midfielder Brad Davis slipped a pass to Clark at the edge of Seattle’s 18-yard-box. Clark’s shot beat Sounders FC goalkeeper Stefan Frei at his far post, vaulting the home side to a 1-0 lead.
Seattle found the equalizer in the 82nd minute, when Martins converted a corner-kick from Andreas Ivanschitz. Ivanschitz’s in-swinger bounced through the Houston defense to Martins, who re-directed a header into the net for his 15th tally of the season.
Martins now has nine goals in his last 10 matches, while Ivanschitz recorded his first career assist for the Rave Green.
