England 1-2 Holland: Three Lions back down to earth

Vardy England

Vardy’s goal wasn’t enough

A few days after beating Germany in their own ground, England lost to Holland, a team on the down after failing to qualify for Euro 2016.

One of the main changes to the team for this game is that Jamie Vardy started instead of Harry Kane, and Daniel Sturridge played alongside him upfront.

The players went through the motions, probably saving themselves for a return to club football this weekend, we have to remember that these are just friendly games, which at least serve to help coach Roy Hodgson select his final squad for France.

Despite not much happening, Jamie Vardy brought some life to the game thanks to the opener before half-time, resulting from a pull-back pass from Kyle Walker.

The visitors improved after the break and were granted the chance to draw level when Danny Rose handled the ball inside the box, with Vincent Janssen stepping up to dispatch the resulting spot-kick.

England struggled to create chances but pushed forward in search of a winner, bringing on the likes of Harry Kane to try and find a goal, but were undone when Janssen barged over Phil Jagielka and crossed for Luciano Narsingh to rifle home.
