Super Eagles star Efe Ambrose today helped his Scottish side Celtic to win the league title after a comfortable 3-1 win over Hearts to make it a fourth personal triumph.
The former Nigerian junior defender had previously claimed three league titles in 2012/13, 2013/14, and 2014/15 before today but the win was more significant because it marked a record 47th title for the club.
Celtic’s Kazim-Richards shot the club into the lead in the 17th minute and it took the hosts 40 minutes to respond and find an equalizer thanks to their Nigerian import Abiola Dauda.
Hearts however failed to consolidate on Abiola’s strike; rather it was the visitors that increased the tally in the 66th and 85th minutes respectively thanks to Patrick Roberts and home boy Leigh Griffiths.
Outgoing Celtic manager Ronny Deila said after the game: “You work so hard and over so many months to reach your goals and we haven’t reached all our goals this year but this is one of the biggest and five in a row is an unbelievable achievement.
“This is just the start for this club because it’s so great, so many talented players. It’s been a fantastic generation. Some of them have been here for all five and now it’s building up young generation behind it as well that can take over after some years.
“We have three games left. We want to win and have the biggest gap we can get. Aberdeen is coming next week and I’m very hungry to beat them and all the boys are as well.”
Ambrose joins Super Eagles colleague Brown Ideye as league champion in Europe this season after the former Dynamo Kiev forward helped Olympiacos win the Greek title.
