The Kenya women’s national team Harambee Starlets has been assured of full support from the government after sealing qualification to the 2016 African Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) finals to be held in Cameroon.
The team played to a 1 – 1 draw with Algeria after having held the North Africans to a 2 – 2 draw away in the first leg and secured the ticket on the away goal rule, their first ever continental appearance and the Sports Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario has assured them of support.
Wario was at the venue to watch the team play Algeria in the Tuesday 12 April clash and congratulated them for what he termed a historical achievement.
“Congratulations are in order for the Starlets team; this is a historical achievement for them and the country and I want to laud all who made it possible from the government to the coaches and the federation.
“The task ahead is bigger but I believe with good support and facilitation they will do well and bring joy to the Kenyan fans. The government will give its full support, like we have done before and as the team prepares for the tournament we will play our role fully to ensure everything runs smoothly. The only returns we want is good results,” he said.
