Kenyan international Michael Olunga’s Swedish top flight side IF Djurgardens was served the first loss of the season, halting a three game run in the opening the matches of the season as the went down 1 – 3 to Hammarby in a on Tuesday 19 April at the Tele2 Arena.
The match was a derby with Hammarby playing as the away team.
Olunga was one of the unused in the game that Hammarby came into on the back of another 3 – 1 victory Djugardens in the domestic cup clash staged on Sunday 6 March.
The visitors took the lead on the 12th minute through Brazilian Alex Medeiros who latched on Erik Israelsson’s pass before beating Djurgardens goalkeeper Kenneth Hoie at the right post.
On form striker Sam Johnson scored his fifth goal of the season on the 25th minute from close range, capitalizing on a defensive error to bring the tie level but Medeiros restored the visitors’ lead on 41 minutes.
After the recess, Israelsson made things tough for the hosts by adding the third on the 62nd minute. Smarason’s cross from the right channel hit the post and went out to Israelsson who calmly smacked the ball into the net.
Despite the loss Djurgardens remain top of the 16-team log on nine points, two ahead of Hammarby after four games.
Djurgardens visit Malmo FF in their next match on Sunday 24 April.
