The Nigeria Home based Eagles have been sent packing from the ongoing African Nations Championships, CHAN after they were shock 1-0 by previously Ebola-ravaged Guinea.
Ibrahima Sory Sankhon scored the all-important goal in Tuesday’s game which ended the ambition of Coach Sunday Oliseh and his boys who many believed will go far after they started their campaign with a win over Niger and a draw against Tunisia.
Going into Tuesday’s game Nigeria were previously top of the log in Group C with four points while the duo of Tunisia and Guinea were trailing with two points.
The proceedings in Kigali and Umuganda Stadium however turned the tables against Nigeria as Oliseh failed his first major test in African football.
Sankhon scored in the dying minutes of the first half and hard as Nigeria tried, they failed to get back.
Guinea Coach Kanfory Lappé Bangoura had told the media on Monday that his team was ready to punish the Home-Based Eagles and he kept his vow as his team punished Nigeria’s school boy defending when Sankhon put the Syli ahead on the 45th minute.
As Nigeria pushed for an equalizer, Sankhon’s goal proved to be the goal of the game as the debutants join Tunisia in the quarter-finals.
The north African side in their own game walloped Niger Republic 5-0 to go top of the group with 5points followed by Guinea.
Meanwhile, Ahmed Akachi could likely win the CHAN 2016 golden shoe after joining Chisom Chikatara as the championship top scorers after he bagged his 4th against Niger Republic.
