James Milner has hailed the ‘magical’ contribution of his Liverpool teammate Philippe Coutinho to the ouster of Manchester United from the Europa Cup.
The Reds took a 2-0 advantage into the return leg at Old Trafford but panicked when Anthony Martial scored first for the Red Devils – It however, didn’t last for long as the Brazilian bamboozled Guillermo Varela before scoring past David de Gea in goal for Manchester United.
The away goal killed the fight from Louis van Gaal’s men and effectively sent Liverpool through to the quarter finals on a 3-1 aggregate.
“Both teams had chances, we didn’t play as well as we did in the first leg but we did enough. Their goalkeeper had a good game and made some saves,” he is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.
“Philippe Coutinho is a great player and is only going to get better. You need that bit of magic sometimes.”
Jurgen Klopp could potentially meet his old club Borussia Dortmund in the last eight of the competition after the Germans inspired by Gabon international Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang destroyed Tottenham Hotspur 5-1 on aggregate.
