Head Coach of the U-23 National Team, Samson Siasia has invited FC Barcelona B team defender Godswill Elohor Ekpolo and England U20s Winger Kelede Nathan Oduwa of Glasgow Rangers to camp for the second Africa U-23 Nations Cup taking place in Senegal 28 November – 12 December this year.
The U23 head coach in a statement on the NFF official website explained he is inviting both players to come and fight for jerseys in the team as he intends to build to strong team that will do the nation proud not only in Senegal but at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro next year.
“After the All Africa Games in Congo, I noticed some departments of the team that needed to be worked on, so I decided to extend my dragnet in search of players who have shown interest in playing for Nigeria in a bid to building a solid team that will be the pride of all Nigerians,” Siasia said.
Elohor arrived Barcelona in 2005 from Torreforta after his family had moved to Tarragona when he was only 6. He joined the U11 team, alongside current Barça B team-mate Sergi Samper and moved up the ranks to become one of the U18 team captains in the year the side won the league and the UEFA Youth League.
He can play at right back or centre back, but although he is a natural defender he is extraordinarily versatile and can also slot into midfield and it is not unknown for him to get into goalscoring positions.
Oduwa until his invitation was an English professional footballer who plays as a winger for Scottish side Rangers, on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, and the England U20 national team.
Siasia however appealed to Nigerians to be patient with him and his technical team as they go about building a solid U-23 squad for Nigeria.
Meanwhile, Coach Siasia has directed all clubs in the Nigeria Professional Football League requesting for the release of their players for league games to send their request to the General Secretary of Nigeria Football Federation, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, as he (Siasia) has no power to release any player.
