Real Madrid defender Marcelo is already looking beyond Manchester City in the semifinal of the UEFA Champions League but says he doesn’t want to play against Atletico Madrid in the final.
The Brazilian helped Zinedine Zidane’s team to a comprehensive 5-1 win at Getafe on Saturday, but he refused to comment on whether a repeat of the 2014 showpiece in Lisbon appealed to him, simply riposting “I’d like another final, yes”.
“[Manchester City] aren’t the weakest team [in the Champions League semi-finals],” he said after the game.
“There are no weak teams. They’ve reached the semi-finals for a reason. They’re as strong as the other teams. Now there’s only the final after this, so there’s no easy games.
“Many people thought what they wanted about us we were 10, nine or seven points behind.
“Those people can lose hope, but our fans were with us and stayed hopeful.
“We received criticism and trained knowing that it was difficult to fight for the League with such a distance.
“Madrid have always had this strength. When you don’t win anything, people can think of many things, but Madrid always fight, even when we’re 15 points behind.
“[On Barca being in bad form], I don’t think they are. One day you’re fine and the next day you’re not.
“[On another Madrid CL final], I’d like another final, yes.”
Real Madrid are handed a lifeline by Barcelona’s poor form recently and only this evening were defeated 2-1 at home by Valencia to keep the Los Blancos just one points adrift the leaders with five games to the end of the season.
