Antonio Conte is set to send a bunch of his defenders packing following their embarrassing 3-0 defeat to Arsenal over the weekend, according to the Daily Mail.
The Blues’ defence has conceded 12 goals in four games, with Branislav Ivanovic and Gary Cahill expected to be among the players that will be let go. Both players were at fault for Arsenal’s first goal at the Emirates, and are believed to be on the chopping list as the Chelsea boss looks to bolster his back four.
Conte will however have more options when skipper John Terry and Kurt Zouma return in the following weeks.
But with 35-year-old Terry’s career drawing to a close, Conte has his eye on signing a new full back and two centre backs, which could also cast doubts over David Luiz’s position as a first-choice central defender.
Chelsea were linked with a host of defenders during the summer transfer window, but failed to land any of their top targets – Leonardo Bonucci, of Juventus, and Kalidou Koulibaly, of Napoli.
They had to make do with left back Marcos Alonso and Luiz, who returned to the club from Paris Saint-Germain.
But Conte still believes he needs to increase his options at the back in the next two transfer windows, the report claimed.
