The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has reconstituted the national leagues in the country, starting from the second tier to the fourth tier ahead of the 2016 season.
As per the FKF communique sent to media houses on Tuesday 22 December, the second tier will henceforth be known as the FKF Championship League, dropping the FKF Premier League tag held in 2015.
The second tier will also graduate from the 18 teams in 2015 to twice that number in 2016 and the league will be divided into two geographical zones.
The third tier will be known as the FKF Super League and will be made up of 36 teams while the fourth tier, known as the FKF National Division One and will be divided into four zones.

Due to the increased football activity by our clubs the federation has reconstituted the 2016/2017 National Leagues as follows.
FKF CHAMPIONSHIP LEAGUE
Creation of a second tier league to replace the FKF/PL.
This league will have 36 teams divided into two geographical regions, the teams in this league will comprise of 16 clubs retained the FKF/PL and the promotion of top teams from the two FKF Super League Zones.
The winning team from each Zone will qualify directly to the KPL.
FKF SUPER LEAGUE
The Third Tier League shall now be the FKF SUPER LEAGUE with 36 teams drawn from those retained from the league and other top clubs promoted from the 4 National Division One League.
The FKF NATIONAL DIVISION ONE
This shall be the 4th tier league comprising of four zones also divided geographically with the teams retained in the league and those promoted by their respective branches.
The reconstitution and of our leagues will now have a broader representation with many teams from various counties and branches as a way of developing football in the grass roots.
