Newcastle 1-1 Aston Villa: Ayew rescues point

Jordan Ayew scores against Swansea

Jordan Ayew celebrates his goal

Ghana international, Jordan Ayew was the hero for Aston Villa as he saved them from the jags of defeat when his wonder goal secured a 1-1 draw against Newcastle United.

Remy Garde’s men were rock bottom of the premier league and needed a positive result in the game played at the Saint James Park and when Senegalese striker Papiss Cisse went off injured, the away fans rejoiced as a potential goal threat was off the pitch.

However, Aleksandar Mitrovic came on for the Magpies and proved a strong substitute as he troubled the Villa backline marshaled by former Manchester City defender Lescott but it was Captain Fabricio Collocini that struck the opening goal as his right foot shot was not kept out by Brad Guzan.

In the second period, Villa’s cause was championed by former Marseille former, Ayew and he delivered the best moment of the match when he curled home a reverse shot from just inside the 18-yard box for a deserved equalizer to make it 1-1.

Newcastle poured forward for the winner but were unable to break the visitors as it ended all squared.
