Ballon d’Or 2015: Messi, Neymar battle Ronaldo

Ballon DÓr2

On Monday, Barcelona duo Lionel Messi and Neymar will be vying for the Ballon d’Or award alongside the current holder, Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo.

The three players are leading individuals for both club and country producing breathtaking performances in the year under review. Currently, Messi is favourite to win his fifth award ahead of Ronaldo and teammate Neymar – all of whom play in the Spanish La Liga.

Lionel Messi stats are staggering as he scored 58 goals and 31 assists in 57 matches, winning the La Liga, Champions League, Copa del Rey, Club World Cup, and European Super Cup in the process.

He was recently hailed as a miracle sent by God by his newest teammate Arda Turan after he inspired Barcelona to a comprehensive 4-0 win against Granada, he said: ‘He is a miracle from God. I like it when he does his things on the field. It’s not jealousy – I feel good, for instance, when he nutmegs someone.”

Winning possibility: 9/10

Cristiano Ronaldo has been hailed as a human machine because of the blistering pace at which plays the game. 2015 was an amazing year that saw the Portuguese score more than Lionel Messi and Neymar but Real Madrid’s inability to win a major trophy may just deny him the chance of adding to his already three previous awards.

The former Manchester United forward played 54 matches for the Los Blancos and scored 61 goals with 22 assists to his credit.

The great late Eusébio da Silva Ferreira (Black Panther) once said about Ronaldo: ‘He has magic in his boots. The first thing you notice about him is that he is incredibly quick and very, very powerful for such a young man. He has great, close control and his technique is excellent. He believes he can do anything with the ball, and that confidence makes him very special indeed.’

Winning possibility: 7/10

Neymar is one that has been tipped to win the award in the future but is related as a darkhorse for this award.

Like Messi, the Brazilian won the Spanish La Liga, Champions League, Copa del Rey, Club World Cup, and European Super Cup playing in 51 matches and scoring 39 goals with 11 assists.

The player is aware of his personality ability to do the extra-ordinary things but acknowledges that Messi is still ahead of him.

‘I have never been concerned about winning the Ballon d’Or or being the best player in the world. The best player is already here and that’s Messi. And now I can see him from close up and help him,’ the Barcelona star said.

Winning possibility: 4/10

That may show in tomorrow’s gala night when the winner of the Ballon D’Or is announced with Messi and Ronaldo expected to produce the winner.
